A Foundation of Faith
First Salem Evangelical Church and Community Center, Inc. was founded in 1982 as Salem Haitian Baptist Church by the late Reverend Cedeon Metius Olibrice. Following his passing in 2020, we continue to be rooted in biblical principles, upholding the teachings of Christ Jesus by the guidance of the Holy Spirit, under the leadership of ordained Pastor Odiles Nelson.
A Journey of Perseverance
First Salem Evangelical
Church and Community Center began in a house with a small group of members. After a few Sundays, the landlord informed
them that he rented a house not a church facility. The church then moved to a
section of a restaurant. Later, the church rented a place in NW 2nd Avenue and 64th
street in Miami, Florida. In 1990, Salem purchased its 1st location at 140 NW
79th street. It was a former office building. The congregation converted it into
a sanctuary.
Anchored in Purpose
This ministry has faced many challenges; yet, many founding members remain as an anchor and testament
to the next generation. Under the new leadership, First Salem continues to
preach and put into practice The Word as it is written in the Bible.
Our Enduring Mission
Our evangelical mission is to work the
harvest field across the generations that remain to bring precious Souls into the storehouse of the Lord by building up individuals, families, and communities with
God’s saving message of forgiveness and love through Christ Jesus our Lord under the
leading of the Holy Spirit. Join us at First
Salem, where His peace awaits you.
