One-Year Bible Reading Plan for New Christians

A good pace is to read 1-2 chapters per day.

This plan is designed to be a gentle guide through some of the most essential books of the Bible. It's not a race to the finish line—the goal is to spend time with God's word, not just to check a box. If you fall behind, don't worry!  Just pick up where you left off.

Month 1: The Life of Jesus

Start your journey by getting to know Jesus. The Gospel of John is a great place to begin, followed by the Gospel of Luke.

  • John (Chapters 1-21)
  • Luke (Chapters 1-24)

Month 2: The Early Church and its Mission

Discover what happened after Jesus's resurrection. The book of Acts tells the story of the first Christians and the spread of the Gospel.

  • Acts (Chapters 1-28)

Month 3: The Beginning of Everything

Return to the very beginning. Genesis tells the foundational story of creation, humanity, and God's promises.

  • Genesis (Chapters 1-50)

Month 4: God's Rescue and Covenant

Continue with the story of God's people. Exodus tells the dramatic story of the Israelites' escape from slavery and their journey to the Promised Land.

  • Exodus (Chapters 1-40)

Month 5: Wisdom for Living

Take a break from the narrative and dive into wisdom. Proverbs is a collection of practical advice for daily life.

  • Proverbs (Chapters 1-31)

Month 6: Psalms for Worship and Reflection

Read through the book of Psalms, the Bible's songbook. These poems are perfect for worship, prayer, and expressing every human emotion.

  • Psalms (Chapters 1-50)

Month 7: Paul's Letter to the Romans

Begin to understand the core doctrines of Christian faith through Paul's letter to the Romans, a powerful explanation of the Gospel.

  • Romans (Chapters 1-16)

Month 8: Letters to the Church

Learn about what it means to live out your faith. Philippians, Ephesians, and Colossians are short, encouraging letters from Paul to early Christian communities.

  • Philippians (Chapters 1-4)
  • Ephesians (Chapters 1-6)
  • Colossians (Chapters 1-4)

Month 9: More Psalms and King David

Continue your reflection in Psalms, focusing on those written by King David. Then, learn his story in the book of 1 Samuel.

  • Psalms (Chapters 51-100)
    1 Samuel (Chapters 1-31)

Month 10: The Minor Prophets

Explore the writings of the prophets. Hosea and Amos offer a powerful look at God's justice and mercy.

  • Hosea (Chapters 1-14)
  • Amos (Chapters 1-9)

Month 11: The End of the Story

Read through the book of Revelation, a challenging but inspiring book about Jesus's ultimate victory.

  • Revelation (Chapters 1-22)

Month 12: More Psalms and a Final Reflection

Finish the year by revisiting Psalms for a final dose of worship and encouragement.

  • Psalms (Chapters 101-150)
  • 1 Peter (Chapters 1-5)
